An exciting journey through “forbidden”, narrow streets in the beautiful old town of Bergamo Città Alta leads us directly to the 5-star hotel Relais San Lorenzo. This modern boutique hotel is one of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and that’s exactly what it feels like. A friendly bellboy discretely takes care of our luggage and confidently looks after the car while we are escorted to our room. After maneuvering through the narrow lanes, our Tesla gets a comfortable spot in the modern underground car park of the Relais. Of course, ideally located and with Destination Charger.
The hotel itself is tastefully renovated with a modern touch and clear lines. It’s located on the edge of the old town, next to a splendid piazza. Take a left and another left and you’re in the middle of the old town. Bergamo is a true gem: winding lanes, belfries, churches and town walls remind us of Rome in a nutshell. After each turn, new fantastic perspectives open up and we try to capture them from every angle. The variety of crooked restaurants, cozy bars, impressive sights and inviting shop windows is overwhelming! Photo scenes and treats where ever you look … Mr and Mrs T are in a playful competition: Who takes the best pictures?!
The rooms are stylishly furnished. The clear and modern design, a mélange of silk and mocha, builds such a tasteful contrast to the century old masonries of Bergamo. Always worth a view from the cozy little balcony. And … whoa! There’s a coffee machine in the room! Our personal highlight: A huge, freestanding tub and a separate large shower with chromotherapy. The most colorful and pleasant bubble bath ever! For once, we skipped the hotel’s spa area.
Instead we spoil ourselves with a delicious aperitif in the historic center of Bergamo and enjoy a few bites from a set of tasty antipasti. Back at Relais San Lorenzo we dine in an impressive setting: right in the middle of ancient Roman walls, skillfully staged and cleverly combined with the modern hotel interior. It’s more like a private dinner at the Hostaria because the restaurant is only open for hotel guests on Mondays. The menu from the small kitchen is very delicate!
Too bad we can’t stay longer because the hotel was fully booked due to the design fair in Milano. What we can assure you of: To us Relais San Lorenzo is definitely the best address in Bergamo and an absolute gem among the weekend getaways, or better hideaways. Thanks to the attentive and generous hotel director for this excellent stay!
Yours
