As luck would have it, we learned that there should be a very special wellness resort in Piedmont. Since we also got a visit from the family at this time, we wanted to treat ourselves to a little break from writing and have spontaneously checked into the Relais San Maurizio in Santo Stefano Belbo. This time even without Destination Charger – still!

The hotel fitted so well with our idea of a beautiful Destination Charging Partner Hotel that we felt urged to ask the director personally if they might also be interested in joining the Tesla program. And lo and behold: Alessandro is already in contact with Tesla! Regardless of this, we can still charge our Model S if required, but not just as comfortably as in the future. Then it will be perfect, so that the hotel is now complete in our imagination. Again a fantastic place where we can both recharge our own energy as well as the battery of our Model S. But this is not all yet.

What was once a monastery

This elegant and very spacious hotel is located in the walls of a former monastery, surrounded by a large garden. The superb spa, the inviting indoor and outdoor pools and the excellent traditional restaurant „Guido da Costigliole“ make the Relais San Maurizio more than just a weekend destination. Here you can easily enjoy for longer with all your senses. 🙂

Everything is really perfectly restored, wonderfully prepared and presented on a very high level. The founding year of the monastery – 1619 – is still reflected in the brand of the hotel and in its own spa and fragrance line. The current owner bought the property in 1997 and turned it into a truly beautiful Relais & Chateaux hotel.

In the park and in the building itself one can find also wonderful seats, lots of art and artfully arranged niches that invite to wonder and settle down. You feel immediately welcome here, almost as if the monks once residing here were still present. In any case, the meditative character has been preserved and the whole house inspires to contemplate. The unaltered buildings are still winding and labyrinthine so that we need several attempts at the beginning to find our room again!

Not only the many interiors of the old building and the very exclusive rooms with a high feel-good character, but also the park and the spa area are unique. The spa with large indoor pool, sauna and steem room has ist own terrace which turns out to be a natural solarium. Here you can let your eyes wander over the extended vineyards on sheltered loungers – Mrs. T’s favorite spot. If the sun should not show, the Relais also has beautiful treatment rooms and even its own salt cave on offer; a special experience that should not be missed. You float for 20 minutes in 2 pools with different salts – we seldom felt so light! Another round through the Kneipp basin and we feel reborn!

In summer, of course, the large outdoor swimming pool is accessible to guests. It was built on a hill, which also offers enough space for the associated terrace with further  comfortable deck chairs. From there, all of Piedmont is at your feet (which incidentally fits with the meaning of Piedmont: „at the foot of the mountain“).

No reservation? Oops…

The restaurant „Guido da Costigliole“, run by the three partners Andrea, Luca and Monica, is located directly in the hotel. Of course, as everywhere else in Piedmont, the kitchen is very fine – but there are many particular specialties that can not be found everywhere in Piedmont! Read more …

We simply recommend that you spend a weekend at the Relais San Maurizio at the next opportunity, not forgetting your reservation at „Guido da Costigliole“. You may also fully and completely trust Andrea’s wine selection! He will always suggest the wine that best suits the particular dish. If you want to stay longer (what we strongly advise), you will also find other restaurants and wine cellars in the immediate vicinity, which provide variety. The hotel is happy to provide competent information and guests even receive a map with signposted routes and the best locations.

By the way, there is also a small but nice gym in the park of the hotel – just in case someone wants to fight against the effects of gluttony….

We wish vou an enjoyable stay!

Yours
