To cut a long journey short: When we left our fabulous farewell event to finally hit the road, it was just a very short trip to our first hotel. After a 6 minute drive we happily reached the Limmathof in Baden. Exhausted, given previous days were quite intense, we fell into the wonderful hotel bed. That said, already the Romans came to Baden about 2000 years ago in order to relax and to recover as Baden has access to natural thermal water, but we’ll get to that later…

First stop: Limmathof Hotel & Private Spa

The modern room completely matches our style: earthy colors and extra high ceilings create a spacious feeling and the interior concept within the whole building surely convinces every design fan. No wonder we recognize similarities to our Logo and the colors used on our website. 🙂

Following a very deep and long sleep in a heavenly bed, the coffee machine in our room ensures that we are getting back on our feet the next morning, ready for the new day to come. That said, no wake-up call for us, but only the soft murmur of the river in front of the hotel as well as the twittering of the birds. What an oasis so close to the city center.

Sitting on the balcony which also belongs to our room, we overlook the river, parts of the old town as well as the emerging new Botta-Bad, catching the first spring sunbeams.

Feasting and bathing in Baden

Taking a spa cure in Baden does not only mean to enjoy the thermal water and sauna facilities for hours, but also the good food and wine. Well, that perfectly fits. Still being groggy from the relocation efforts, we decide to take advantage of the hotels spa facilities first. Baden’s thermal water has the highest mineral content in Switzerland and was appreciated already by the Romans, later on by Hermann Hesse and other famous spa guests and today also by Mr & Mrs T. What a relief! The wellness area at the Limmathof (Novum Spa) is very cosy and modern. In case you are looking for more privacy you can also book a private spa suite. The warmth flowing our way feels just great.

Although Mrs T grew up in Baden knowing many facts about the bath town already, there were also some new things to discover within the historical spa quarter – particularly from a culinary point of view. The new restaurant Brasserie Schwanen is located in a historical building next to the hotel Limmathof.

Its impressive 1897 Art Nouveau built dining room invites you to linger a while and the excellent food is doing the same. We ordered “moules et frites“ which were very fresh and tasty. The Crêpe Suzette were prepared directly at our table and tasted marvelous. We would have come back, but for now we are on the road…

On the other side of the river at the restaurant Goldener Schlüssel modern meals meet historical ambiance. Any dish is served in small portions so that guests can try many different great tasting creations. If you prefer a more lively style the Italien restaurant il Brunello offers the best pizza in town combined with the original flair.

Fans of historical buildings should also not miss the Atrium-Hotel Blume. It is perfect for having an elegant afternoon tea being surrounded by art nouveau architecture.

Sustainable thermal energy

The hotel Director Lorenz Diebold receives us at the „Hirsch“ which is the modern part of the Limmathof Hotel & Private Spa. The hotel consists of two buildings, the historical part which is located at the city side of the river and the new, top modern „Hirsch“ where we also had our room. „The hotel is looking forward to welcoming more Tesla drivers“ Lorenz says. He is also very proud that his hotel was one of the first hotels in Switzerland which offered a destination charger to their guest. Our Tesla fits perfectly in front of the hotel and the hotel garage also offers two generous parking lots with charging infrastructure.

Talking about sustainability, Lorenz is realistic: Given it is a spa hotel fresh towels are required all the time, but the hotel does take care of the environment wherever possible. As the geothermal water is a natural source of heat (47 degrees celsius), the hotel uses the water not only for its spa, but also to heat the entire hotel. Well done!
