The journey along Lake Garda is marvelous. Curvy roads, steep mountain slopes, flowering trees, gardens with palm trees, Castelli – you name it. Every bend, a new view of the lake, each turn a surprise. We’re stunned and, again, are very happy for our autopilot. Compared to the tricky roads along Lago die Como, Lake Garda is a breeze. Mrs T relaxingly enjoys the ride and Mr T simply spares risky driving maneuvers. Thank you, Tesla! Arriving at Riva del Garda it is time for a well-deserved car wash and winter vanishes from the rims. Hello spring!
At 3:59 pm, the heavy iron gate of the Lido Palace reveals a palm-lined avenue crossing the impressive hotel park. An unforgettable moment! The porter welcomes us at the entrance and receptionist Giada shows us around this spacious piece of heaven designed by architect Alberto Checchetto.
Celebrating classy style for more than a century
The original Lido Palace Hotel opened its doors in December 1899. Today it’s a stylish enclave within a beautiful green park overlooking the lake. The whole site celebrates the scenery around Riva del Garda: reflections on the water, imposing walls of limestone mountains and the rich vegetation. Mrs T is so fascinated, she can hardly keep her finger off the trigger. Like a paparazzi, she captures every perspective and every detail.
The modern steel construction in front of the palace reminds of a ship and elegantly runs through the park. The fourth floor of the hotel is completely new and made of glass for a wonderful view. We check into our room and are invited by a super-size bed. The interior is modern, with noble materials and stylish decor. They even provide flip-flops! Mrs T does not hesitate, and off she goes to the sauna while Mr T enjoys the room and a little writing.
Well relaxed, we dine in the restaurant Il Re della Busa between the trees under a large, so-called “steel-leaf”. Chef Giuseppe spoils us with a menu – simply amazing. Combined with wine and view, this is a unique experience for all senses! Architecture … interior … everything just falls into place, modern but with a classy touch. We can’t help it: The Italians have style!
Hotel director Gabriele is the best example, as he joins us for dinner. His suit: noble. His staff: elegant. His standards: very high. “Of course, it’s a challenge to offer the same service like in a big resort, running a hotel with only 42 rooms. For us innovation is key.” Our Tesla can tell: He extensively enjoys his beauty spot at the destination charger in the park right at the entrance.
The next day we catch the first heartwarming rays of spring sun on the terrace and treat ourselves to a nice aperitif – in a palace with more than a hundred years of history and in a town that has been repeatedly rated as one with the highest quality of life. Cheers to life!
Yours
Mr & Mrs T
