Do you want to feel like a King, Queen or Princess of the good ol’ times? Come to Castello Di Potentino. This family-run castle offers a very special, whole new experience! Big, beautiful, unbelievable.
Beware of the dogs
Already before entering the gates, be aware of the dogs. Never ever enter without ringing the bell, even if the gate is open. Okay, this is spooky and reminds us of “The Hound of the Baskervilles”. We would not be surprised if Sherlock Holmes opened the door. We ring, the gate creaks and then … (Maybe we just read too many novels.)
We meet the owners Charlotte and Alexander with their dogs and feel like being a member of the family: The Great Dane is called Mini, not because it’s tiny … it truly is not … it’s the abbreviation of Minerva. The Jack Russell is called Otto. What a pack! Both are super friendly, so no need to worry.
The Greene Family has restored the enchanted castle with great taste and creativity and made it a truly special place. It’s a so-called 21st Century Castle, merging the past with the present. The castle is perched atop a hill, right in the wild part of Tuscany – in a beautiful valley near Montalcino.
The philosophy of the hosts: Invite the guests to join them but leave it to them to decide whether or not. Of course, we want to! We share a glass of their own award-winning wine and learn about the castle’s history. What a unique place!
At some point Charlotte also wants to know more about our journey and how Tesla changed our life. “Oh, I love Elon Musk”, she says, and we know that we are in the right spot. No wonder there are free Destination Chargers right in front of the Castle.
Alexander shows us the in-house winery and we learn a lot about organic wine. We watch Charlotte making hats from homemade felt. The wool comes from their own sheep grazing in front of the castle.
At the beautiful hotel pool, we are slouched on chairs and sun loungers especially made for the Castello di Potentino – of course here in Tuscany. While walking through the vineyards we cannot get enough of the beautiful, wild nature. The garden is full of rosemary and art.
Within the Castello there are a million things to discover: Historic furniture, art from various cultures and epochs … Just stroll around, discover and open the doors to bygone times.
Everything tastes and feels so real
We dine in the kitchen, just like a close guest of the family: Homemade soup, bread from the wood-burning oven, sheep’s milk cheese, salad from the garden and, of course, homegrown olives. Mhhh yummy.
Who has ever stayed in a real castle? Not in a museum, but in one that is still alive. A castle with centuries-old four-poster beds and freestanding bath tubs with feet. A castle with a view of stunning landscapes. A castle where festivals are celebrated in the courtyard. With its own design line and shop. A castle which takes account of nature. Simply a place where authenticity is not just a lip service.
Here, history becomes tangible, fairy tales come true. At Castello die Potentino everyone can be a king or a queen. Everything is real! One is invited to participate in the castle life, to explore the wild nature and to learn. The enchanted mansion is full of life and culture. From the lovingly designed “Handbook for our guests” to the breakfast that everyone prepares for themselves – it’s just one-of-a-kind. Yo have to come here and see it yourself. A mysterious house, a unique experience and an unforgettable weekend getaway full of agri- and culture.
Thanks Charlotte and Alexander for sharing your story with us. We leave this wonderful place with so many new inspiring impressions.
Yours
Mr & Mrs T
